To perform construction plan review on specific commercial construction plans, in accordance with relevant state and local codes, standards, approved plans, and manufacturer specifications and requirements.
Ensures that plans submitted for approval are designed in accordance with the standards of the Minnesota State Building Code and other relevant ordinances.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Conduct commercial building plan review.
Review building plans and assemble input from other divisions to complete plan review for the purpose of securing permits.
Interpret and explain City ordinances and state codes to homeowners, realtors, architects, engineers, contractors, and developersHelp maintain current code reference resourcesPerform routine or specialized inspections when assignedInform supervisor promptly of matters which are important to the City's interests or the public health, safety, and welfare of its residentsMaintain and expand building code knowledge and skills with continuing educationServe as a back up to residential plans examinerPerform other related duties as apparent or assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIREDAbility to complete assigned work on time and promptly respond to inquiries and complaintsAbility to communicate verbally and in writing in a manner that is clear, concise, and accurateAbility to maintain effective and respectful working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and members of the general publicThorough knowledge of the Minnesota State Building Code, particularly as it applies to commercial construction Ability to read and thoroughly understand construction and site plansGeneral knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical and fire prevention codes and practices
